The January recruitment period proves to be a period of significant rumour and possible big-money moves. A number of prominent stars find themselves linked with transfers out of their current clubs. Here is a look at some of the major figures who could be changing clubs in January.

Antoine Semenyo

Despite the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the AFCON, which has kept the forward available, it appears an important transfer is imminent. The Bournemouth attacker has a deal featuring a substantial buy-out clause active for a two-week period in early January. Latest reports point to Manchester City have emerged as his services. Former suitors such as Tottenham and Chelsea reportedly have turned their attention to other options, leaving clubs like Liverpool or Manchester United to attempt a last-minute move.

Marc Guéhi

This English centre-back has continued to excel for Crystal Palace despite a summer transfer to Anfield collapsing. With his contract due to expire in the close season, January is the London club's final opportunity to obtain a fee for their skipper. A host of elite clubs, including Manchester City and several continental powerhouses like Bayern Munich, Real Madrid, and Barcelona, reportedly be interested. However, a winter departure remains unlikely, especially given the manager's dependence on the defender.

Brennan Johnson

The Welsh forward has had first-team opportunities limited at Spurs this campaign. Although finishing as the side's leading goalscorer last season, he has started only a handful of Premier League games. It is understood the North London outfit is willing to consider a sale for the right price, believed to be in the region of £40 million. Bournemouth appear to be at the front of the queue, with Aston Villa, Brentford, and Crystal Palace additionally showing an inquiry.

R. Neves

The Portuguese midfielder could be set for a comeback to the English top flight following a period in Saudi Arabia. Still only twenty-eight, while his contract expiring in the summer, he represents a possible opportunity. Teams such as Liverpool and Manchester United are linked with the former Wolves man. Furthermore, there are suggestions from Spanish media that he would be willing to take a reduced salary for a move to the Spanish giants.

The experienced Germany goalkeeper finds himself as third-choice at Barça under the manager Hansi Flick. After lost his place and had surgery, a January departure seems increasingly likely. Villa were once linked as a possible suitor, but that move currently seems off. Instead, clubs from Turkey and Saudi Arabia are thought to be showing curiosity in the 33-year-old.

The prolific England striker has kept finding the net regularly in the Middle East. A return to the Premier League might enhance his fading chances of being in the national squad. The exciting Turkish attacker has been in excellent form for Juventus this term. As his current contract nearing its end, a host of English sides – such as Tottenham, Arsenal, Chelsea, and Liverpool – are keeping tabs on the developments. Juventus are eager to secure the 20-year-old to a new long-term agreement but face a race to retain one of the continent's brightest young talents.

Kees Smit

This much-admired Dutch teenage midfielder has drawn comparisons to Kevin De Bruyne for his playing style. After starring at the U19 Euros, Smit has become a regular in the AZ Alkmaar first team. The teenager is heavily tipped to complete a big-money transfer in January. Newcastle are believed to be frontrunners, but could face strong rivalry from Real Madrid for a signing priced at around twenty-two million pounds.
