Exactly 30 years after the first Toy Story movie was released, establishing the animation giant as a leading animation studio and bringing audiences to iconic figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the plot but keeping fans wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

In the teaser reveals Bonnie — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a latest plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her initial digital gadget, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser avoids is why Woody is back with his companions in Bonnie's room. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items find good homes.

Certainly, Pixar will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Seeing him show up in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also makes us wonder whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (Keanu Reeves)?

Connections from the Previous Film

At the very least, some aspects are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was pass his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia attached to her outfit.

Hopefully she is remains the key figure among the toys.
